Mozambique extends from tropical coastal plains to central plateaus and northern highlands. Approximately 8% of the country’s land is arable, supporting maize, cassava, rice, sorghum, beans, cotton, sugarcane, tobacco, sesame and horticultural crops. Major agricultural imports include wheat, rice and vegetable oils, while exports include tobacco, cotton, sugar, cashew nuts and sesame. No GM crops are commercially cultivated, although imports of GM FFP products are provided for under the biosafety framework.
